During the pandemic I launched a weekly habit of hiking in the woods of a nearby state park. The regular observation of the natural world, through the slow creep of the seasons left me with a residual of normalcy. Something of the world did carry on as usual. Meanwhile, back at home I felt an unraveling of what I had always assumed life to be. The rhythms and daily priorities swallowed up by the greater world in crisis. The paintings done during this period reflect a pairing of the accouterments of the physical space; home, and the natural world. In a pandemic world, home became a familiar refuge or prison, providing protection from the interference and perseverance of a virus. Nature does as it always has, seeds beauty and chaos, sometimes at the same time.
